The Sickest Road Trip Ever

Here's a short video I made from this past winter of a BADASS snowboard trip my brother and I went on. I won a freakin' amazing contest from TGR, which was Arcteryx outerwear  and Selkirk Wilderness Catskiing
Mt Baldy

We started our trip in Manning Park un-touched pow and virtually no crowd, and then made our way up the POWDER Hwy to Red Resort. A good friend of mine from my high school, Jaime Mac who lives in Castlegar, offered to put us up for a few nights which turned into almost 2 weeks. Jaime was amped to have some Island boys over and share some gnar with us in the mountains.
Over the next week or so, our gracious host took Nick and I resort boarding, splitboarding at Mt Baldy, and snowshoeing up to the top of out-of-bounds Whitewater near Ymir Peak. The conditions were epic as was the weather. Jaime and his fiance (or wife as of now?) Lindsay showed us all the sights around Nelson, including the ultra relaxing mineral waters of Ainsworth, this tiny dot on the map along the Pow Hwy.

The time came for Nick and I to start our way up Hwy 31 to Meadow Creek, ground zero for the gnarlist snowboard trip to date. We stopped along Kootenay Lake to spend the night in our tent. We lucked out and had no neighbours to bother us plus a crisp, crystal clear night with a full moon to light up our fantastic view of the lake.
Upon reaching our ultimate destination, the friendliest staff I've ever met greeted us and so the gnar began. We were driven up to the cat, which then took us to Selkirk Wilderness' pimp lodge. That night they shot off a shit load of fireworks, which I like to think were for us... In the morning we ate a dank breakie and were off to the top for a day of top notch lines. The snow and weather were phenomenal. Our group consisted mostly of middle aged 2 plankers. This gave Nick and I more line options as they were not so aggressive nor frothing for heavy duty lines. This proceeded to be the trend for the rest of the cat trip. I could write forever about the lines we did. But I won't so just watch the short movie (6:55) I made below and you'll get the gist of our experience. And once again, sorry for mostly POV, we found it super hard and annoying to stop and pull out our other camera we brought along.

Enjoy

A Gypsy Slideshow

This is a slideshow I made this spring/summer for a BIT, a Broadreach Instructor Talk- think TED Talk and then add some awesome, random themes and ideas. Every instructor had to do one and be under 5 mins, so I chose "Modern Gypsy" and did a quick dialogue on my life as a modern gypsy with all the moving around and such. I didn't have much content plus I hate talking in front of a crowd, so I decided to whip up this quick slideshow to fill the remainder. I took 90% of these photos. I owe credit to Nick Bueckert, Daniel Oselette, Ryan Bell, Shane Yargeau and Mario Duarte for the photo's that I appear in. Here it is...

Do people enjoy slideshow's? or is it better to scroll through?

Just curious...

It's Been A While

Wow, what a busy spring and summer. I haven't had much time to post stuff on this. I think the last post was in March! Well there have been many adventures since.

After my EPIC snowboard trip with my brother Nick, I went out fishing for geoducks a few more weeks and then headed off to North Cackalacky for a much needed refresher in Wilderness First Responder and then staff training for my summer gig with Broadreach.

Once training completed I was blessed to have such amazing friends from the past put me up and showed me the awesome side of Raleigh and Baltimore. A big thanks to Mark, Marc, Michelle and Darren and Jan. Another thanks to this cool girl I met at Staff Training, Jess, for inviting me to Cape Hatteras for a weekend with some very sick kite surf pros from Jersey and California. It was pretty amazing to meet these peeps and the weekend was all-time. There was a tropical storm heading straight for us and it created some amazing wind for these pros.

Mid June I shipped out to Nassau in the Bahamas for a week waiting for my students to arrive. During this week it was Junkanoo, a couple weeks celebration for Bahamian Independence Day.  My students showed up and we headed to San Salvador for a week on Marine Bio and snorkelling around this sick island.

Panama was the next stop on my summer adventure. I had a few days to scout around Panama City and the coastline of the Chiriqui Province. There was this crazy bumpy goat road that wound on for 2 hrs going up and down some pretty gnarly mountains. The road is unpaved and is terrible during the rainy season, which was exactly when I was there. There were few rivers to drive through and some questionable bridges to cross but it was really worth it. I spent the night in Pixvae, a sleeply fishing village in the middle of nowhere with no electricity during most of the day/night. I stayed in a unfinished "hostal" with open windows. I had one of the best sleeps ever! The sound of bugs, birds, monkeys and whatever else may have lurking was surreal. Especially coming from DT Vancouver and all I hear is cops, ambo's, and firetrucks all day and night. The next stop was a boat trip to Isla Simca, a private island owned by Italian billionaire Jean Pigozzi. This is where the Liquid Jungle Lab is located. Also there is a pimp mansion used by celeb's and goes for $28,000 a night or $200, 000. Clearly we stayed in the Lab which was set up for Biologists of all kinds and is affordable.

The trip itinerary was crazy. It went something like this: Dive Isla Simca and Isla Coiba; surf Santa Catalina; hike, zipline, whitewater raft and climb Boquete and cap it off with some sailing in San Blas. And I got paid to do this. Pretty sweet gig if you ask me, just saying.

Anyhoo....
There is much to tell from this trip and I might just write some random adventures should I get the time.
Plus I have an arsenal of content now from this long pause of writing due to snowboard trips, fishing, 'Merica, Bahamas and Panama.

The Road to Gnar, Via the Powder Highway

And we're back after a few weeks of radio silence.

I'm proud to say my brother Nick and I are on the road trip of a life time! 2 weeks of Kootenay snow exploration capping it all off with a 3 day cat-skiing with Selkirk Wilderness.

We started the trip off right with a pit stop at Manning Park Resort off the #3. They had received snow all week accumulating 92 cm of freshie goodness. We got there early and got 1st tracks all day! There may have been 40 people tops (including staff) and we scored all day.

A local TV station, CBC, were up there interviewing people about their thoughts of Manning Park closing down indefinitely. They found us and this is how it turned out... 'the Interview'

We are currently in Penticton BC, visiting family, stocking up for the mountains and frothing for the next leg.

Next stop Castlegar to link up with an old buddy from high school and gear up for a few days of Red Resort and Whitewater

Off Diving the Gnar for Urchins North Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii for a month

Good news, I'm off commercial diving for a month with MIke and Gary Lagos for red sea urchins. This should be a good adventure up to some pretty remote and pristine islands and fjords in Middle and Northern BC. It's hard work but can pay very well, which is handy, I have a EPIC trip booked with my brother to Selkirk Wilderness Cat-skiing for a few days and then hitting the local "resorts" Whitewater and Red Resort.

Back in a month.....

More Banked Slalom Pics

Well here are some shots on Saturdays qualifying. Unfortunately the PA system was quiet and it was almost impossible to hear. I know for sure I got pics of Travis Rice, Terje Haakonsen, and Sammy Luebke. I only shot on Saturday when it was foggy, but some of them turned out pretty good with a little tweaking.

The Legendary Mt Baker Banked Slalom

What a killer long weekend up at Mt Baker! I convinced a buddy of mine last minute to join me for a camping adventure in the middle of Feb. The vibe was great up there and everyone was in a good mood. Saturday was a socked in with clouds and fog, but Sunday was bluebirds and the mountains were popping...

And here's the sleeping situation.

I'm trying to see what works on the page with lots of photo's... I'll take any suggestions.

Welcome to Gnar Inc. 1st blog

Well I'm not too sure how to blog yet, but I plan to use this blog for sharing my photography and travel exploits as oppose to put it on Facebook. So here we go.....

My name is Jesse Bueckert (the guy on the left) and this is my photo story. I have always loved travel and photography and started my 1st journey way back in 2001 immediately after high school to Europe, after that, it was on. I've been to 4 continents now and looking forward to seeing the rest of them.

What is Gnar?

Gnar is a shortened version of the word gnarly, meaning high on the scale of dangerousness and coolness.

This is what I hope to achieve with this photo blog.

Enjoy!
